We might be getting a SUN SparcUltra Enterprise 9000
donnation from SUN Microsystems, so reserve a space
for this machine: dimensions (3'x 5'), power 120VAC,
single phase, 20 amp. All the rest of the SciViz
equipment will be located on the 3rd floor.
I've summarized the ACITC floor plans along with
Viz&Animation user equipment survey at
http://www.sv.vt.edu/future/vt-cave/VT/acitc.html
Related issues:
1. My experiences building a lab in Hancock and
classroom in McBryde is the need for CLEAN POWER.
I would recommend that we could all share a central
UPS & Power conditioner. I already have a 18KV
UPS-Powerconditioner for the CAVE computer and
associated peripherals but the Viz Lab (3rd) floor
will have a 20 workstation seat classroom that
could share a UPS-Powerconditioner with the 2nd
floor Central Computer Space. Because there will
be many workstations thru-out the building, you might
think about getting a UPS&Powerconditioner for the
entire building.
2. I will be putting together a seperate detailed
layout of the power requirements for the 3rd
floor and need to talk with you about how to
do this correctly. I am waiting to hear from
the Viz&Animation group and NCSA on I-Wall
dimensions for the workstation class-room before
I make a recommendation.
I will be sending you a report on the Viz&Animation
interior design, followed by a recommendation for
equipment and power requirements for the corresponding
spaces.
